Air ConditioningComponentsBlower Resistor

Air Conditioning Blower Motor Resistor:

The Blower motor is pretty basic much like an electric fan that you use in your home. The Blower motor has a power cord that needs a positive and a negative to operate. The Power cord comes from a control unit referred to as the Resistor. This controls the fan speed by reducing voltage flow to the blower motor.

TECH TIP
If your blower motor only works on high or one or two speeds, then your Blower motor is OK, you need to replace the Blower Motor Resistor. If the Motor doesn't come on at all, you may need to replace the motor and resistor.

DIAGNOSE
Check for Battery Positive and Battery Negative going to the Blower Motor. No battery negative or positive means its time to replace the blower motor resistor. Make sure it is getting both.
REPLACE
Generally located under or behind the glove box on the passenger side of the vehicle. You may need to remove a few covers to gain access to the mounting bolts. Remove the mounting bolts and Electrical connector. For specific removal procedures get an Online Repair Manual
