Air Conditioning - Automotive
How Car Air Conditioning works :
First lets note that the Air Conditioning system is a sealed unit. This means you do not need to check or add anything unless there is a leak. The A/C System is filled with freon (R134A) in liquid form.
When the Air Conditioner is turned on the freon is allowed to flow as a liquid into the expansion valve witch allows just that. The freon expands into a gas form through the evaporator and the reaction makes it icy cold. A fan motor blows air across the evaporator making cold and into the car through the dash vents.
Next, the freon is sucked into the compressor and compressed into a high pressure - high temperature vapor. The freon is the pushed through the condenser (located in front of the radiator) to allow moving air to cool the freon vapor back into a liquid before it flows back into the receiver dryer/accumulator where any moisture is removed and it waits it turn to flow through the expansion valve once again to start the cycle all over.
