Air ConditioningComponentsOrifice Tube

Air Conditioning Orifice Tube:

At the Orifice Tube the refrigerant is forced to flow through a fine restriction. This causes a pressure drop and a temperature drop in the refrigerant entering the evaporator.
A fine gauze filter is located at the inlet and outlet sides of the orifice tube to filter any contaminants from passing on to the evaporator.

DIAGNOSE
There are no moving parts to the Orifice Tube. As long as it isn't clogged, the Orifice Tube will function normally.
REPLACE
This should be done by a qualified technician only. The A/C System needs to be evacuated first. A machine is used in most cases to remove any existing freon from the system. For Vehicle specific removal procedures and diagrams get an Online Repair Manual
